Chinese Bamboo Flautist | Arts and Cultural Professional
Leung Si Wai, Silvia is a Hong Kong–based musician and arts and cultural professional whose practice connects performance, cultural programming, and creative innovation. Specialising in the Chinese bamboo flute dizi, she is dedicated to sharing the expressive beauty of Chinese music while opening space for artistic dialogue across cultures, disciplines, and communities.
Silvia holds a Master’s degree in Arts and Cultural Enterprise from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, and a Bachelor’s degree in Music and French from The University of Hong Kong. Her background in music, language, culture, and enterprise supports a practice that moves fluidly between artistic creation, project development, and cultural engagement.
Within Hong Kong’s public cultural sector, Silvia has contributed to the planning and coordination of music and multi-arts programmes that encourage participation, exchange, and audience connection. She has curated and coordinated more than fifty performances, reaching broad audiences and supporting wider appreciation of Chinese instrumental music. Her work also includes the revitalisation of Cantonese music from the 1910s to 1930s, reflecting her interest in preserving heritage while presenting it with renewed relevance for contemporary listeners.
Silvia’s professional experience extends to arts technology and innovation, including projects exploring motion capture, projection mapping, and immersive audio as tools for artistic presentation and audience engagement. Alongside her cultural work, she continues to develop her voice as a performer and composer. Her compositions include Bamboo for Chinese bamboo flute and piano, and Resonance in the Secluded Bamboo Grove for Chinese bamboo flute and yangqin, the latter inspired by classical Chinese poetic imagery and the ideal of qing yun — a purity of resonance with elegance and inward depth.
Guided by the belief that music can serve as a living bridge between cultures and generations, Silvia welcomes local and international collaboration with artists, cultural organisations, institutions, and partners who share a commitment to meaningful artistic exchange.
